NATCH! DISPATCH: PENGUIN STORYTIME

“They’d been surprised when Whimsy had come to them with a sketch of a bird that spent most of its time in the water, coming ashore only to breed. That was just like Whimsy, to add some random one-off. She’d done the same thing with sea turtles. And the way she dressed them, with their little tuxedos, and that adorable toddler waddle, that was all Whimsy. Nate had questioned whether they didn’t seem a bit cartoonish, but Betty had quickly pointed out that form followed function. White bellies would offer camouflage from predators scanning for them from the sea, while their black backs would similarly disguise them when they were underwater. It was a thin argument, but enough to sell them to the Folks Upstairs. Before long, we had a whole family of them as far north as the equator.”
